The Jardine baby furniture company also has toddler beds as well as lovely line of glider rocking chairs. They are very high quality products, but reasonably priced.

After you have chosen all of the furniture for the baby's room, you can start the decorating process. Now you can pick window treatments and choose the themes associated with wood working patterns that will complement that lovely furniture.

Getting Baby to Sleep - Simple, Effective Advice

During the first six weeks, getting baby to sleep is usually not the big problem it can become in later weeks. Babies and mothers both need to establish a firm bond and this often is best established through constant contact.

When my elder children were born, the babies were usually cared for in the hospital nursery, away from the mother and tucked firmly into cribs.

It was the task of the nursing staff to care for the babies who were brought to the mother's bedside only at feeding times. These separations were often painful experiences for new mothers and not good learning times for either mothers or babies.

Thankfully, times have changed, and the importance of close bonding is mostly universally recognized nowadays.

These early weeks are precious times for getting to know each other, learning about getting baby to sleep, establishing feeding, new routines and methods.

Many mothers feel intuitively that they need their babies with them most if not all of the time, especially during the first six weeks so that getting baby to sleep is not such a problem.

Getting Baby to Sleep

Many years of experience helping mothers to solve their baby sleep problems has shown me that babies who are put to bed when they are already asleep, often struggle with sleep problems well into the toddler years.

Babies who learn to settle into sleep by themselves through being put to bed while they are awake, tend to have less sleep problems as toddlers.

Around six to eight weeks is a good time to begin introducing the infant to an awareness of going to sleep in the crib, pram or bassinet. Beginning this now means that the young baby learns to associate being tucked into the bed with getting themselves to sleep.

The earlier your baby is placed in his bed awake and learns to settle on his/her own, the easier it is for this association to become pattern and habit.

I believe some mothers do expect their baby to fall sleep on their own right from the beginning, while other mothers encourage their baby to fall asleep at the breast, or rocking in their arms, before placing him in bed. When baby wakes, he can be startled to discover the separation and show his distress.

If the baby is encouraged to drop into sleep by himself,the inner awareness of drifting off is learned, so this becomes the baby's expectation of what to do when placed in his crib. Of course all his other needs have been taken care of first (clean, dry nappy, full tummy, cuddling, play and contact), before his sleep time.

It is also worth noting that babies who can settle themselves are often more adaptable to change and able to sleep more readily in different and new surroundings.

It makes perfect sense that babies who learn sleep by association from the earliest moments have far less baby sleep problems.

Numerous parents have claimed that this simple piece of advice about putting babies into their beds when they are still awake made all the difference with their subsequent babies' sleep habits.

Books for Baby's Nursery

I have forever been intrigued as well as challenged with the idea of designing a nursery for babies that is multi-functional. Space challenged apartment dwelling parents have the need for spaces within the home that can be used beyond their obvious intentions. For any one room, including the room designated for a baby to be used for one solitary purpose seems almost wasteful.
There are ways to design a nursery that will be used for so much more than a place where baby will sleep. Once traditional nursery furnishings like a baby crib and necessary storage are in place, put on your thinking cap and see if there are activities that you could relocate from other areas in the home for which the nursery could be used.

For instance, I've always been fond of the idea of a library combined with my baby's nursery. What better way to entertain yourself while rocking a fussy baby into the wee hours of the morning than with a riveting read? The idea of a special reading area in the bedroom appeals to me because books represent what all bedrooms should be: peaceful and quiet.

I have tried on occasion to watch television during these late night sessions, but I found that the noise coming from the set seemed to disturb the baby. I am not a fan of giving children a television in their bedroom. If I watched television in the nursery during the early years how could I take it away later? Besides, books are so attractive and will add so much style and atmosphere to the nursery. When initially making the decision on how to design the nursery, consider that a Mother Goose or other popular children's storybook theme would open the door for ways to integrate books into the decor.

The process can begin gradually beginning with a book shower or books presented as birthday or Christmas gifts. A library for your child could be built book by book alongside your own favorite reading material to be enjoyed on rainy days or sleepless nights. After your baby has outgrown the need for a nursery, a peaceful area where family members can enjoy a good book remains. What a lovely way to design a nursery with multiple uses.

During sleep cycles they will require at least one hour of feeding, petting and burping. This leaves most parents with only two hours of sleep during a baby sleep cycle.

In order to effectively improve the sleep timings, parents need to develop sleeping habits. It can be developed by trying to coax the baby to sleep without the regular feed. If you feel that a lullaby and rocking is helping, you don't have to feed the baby. After three months, try putting the baby in coats. They will definitely wake up in the middle of night but try not to pick them up and sooth them in their coats. Ultimately, they will adjust to the new environment.

For small children, any choking hazard can take place, so they should not be allowed to sit on big ones. Likewise, big children should not use small rocking horse because they may not be designed to resist more weight. These rocking horses should be maintained well and checked periodically to make sure none of the pieces have become loose.
